Universal Audio’s UAD Cards have recently received a software update which enables them to be run as RTAS OR AU Plug-Ins. This now moves them from the DSP only list (Pro Tools HD) to be compatible with all versions of Pro Tools (joy!).
Universal Audio’s UAD Cards are PCIe (PCI Express) DSP Cards that run a wide array of Universal Audio Plug-Ins. Each card has a different Plug-In set, as well as a different speed (all multiples of the UAD-1′s speed). Universal Audio’s current array of UAD Cards is the second generation, and come with their 5.1, Neve, and or Mix Essentials II Plug-In packages.
The software update that has made RTAS and AU “wrapping” possible, is 5.2, and there were a few other updates to make sure this transition went smoothly.
- Includes Mellowmuse ATA Automatic Delay Compensation (time alignment)
- New Pro Tools Configuration Window (UAD-2 only)
These cards are all PCIe cards, so no laptop users. You can also, in most cases, put up to 4 UAD-2 cards into one machine.
This update is free for all UAD-2 current owners, and available for a “small fee” for UAD-1 owners (although, with reported limited success).

Universal Audio is reknown for their hardware Inserts (Channel Strips, Comps, Mic Pre-Amps). They are also the sole-providor of Digital Neve Plug-Ins.
