The Yamaha PM1D Gone Fishing… Retirement

PM1D
Oh... Retirement.

As of December of 2009, Yamaha’s revolutionary PM1D will officially will cease to be produced.

Yamaha Site’s a limit being reached on the availability of key components to the console, presumably because they components are now 10 years old.

This leaves some ground breaking shoes to be filled, and potentially a new series of consoles from Yamaha Commercial Audio in the near future.

Yamaha will be shipping all current orders, and have parts in stock for repairs/replacements after December, but will stop manufacturing the PM1D to facilitate having parts in stock before their suppliers sell out.

Will the 5D be next?  As far as I can see, not any time soon.

As a side note, this is the first time an audio related product has made me feel old… I can still remember my first AES Convention… Also, the PM1D’s first AES.
