A new company on the scene, iConnectivity, has introduced something that may pave the way for using an iPhone or iPad for recording or live sound related purposes… the iConnectivityMIDI.
MIDI? On the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad? That’s right… Lets take a look at the iConnectivityMIDI.
It’s a fairly easy device to use… Here’s the Ins/Outs.![]()
- 1 x USB MIDI In from USB MIDI Instrument
- 2 x MIDI In (5 Pin)
- 2 x MIDI Out (5 Pin)
- 1 x Mini USB Out (for Computer)
- 1 x RJ-50 (Ethernet) Output to iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch via Cable
So what does this mean? 16 Channels of Midi In/Out of your “i” device… Given, not any app is compatible with this device, but there’s a small group of apps compatible at the moment, which will only grow.
Now I believe the most significant part of this isn’t the device it’s self, but the fact that MIDI I/O has been proven possible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and potentially the iPad… It can’t be long before other companies are making the same type of interface with different connectivity, such as wifi midi to a device or multi channel audio into an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
