Soundcraft’s New Vi2: 96 Channels, 8 Channel Faders

Soundcraft has recently introduced the smallest 96 input digital console available, the Vi2.

Lets take a look at the Vi2, and the Soundcraft Vi Series.

The Vi is a second control surface/console for the Vi series of consoles… It’s tiny, tiny tiny… and has the same basic functionality of the Vi4 (capable of up to 72 channels) and the Vi6 (capable of up to 96 channels), hence it can be used with the same stage box as either console.

Lets take a look at whats on the Soundcraft Vi2 Control Surface…

  • 8 Channel Fader Bank for Channel Control Including
    • Full Metering On Each Channel
    • Full Gain Reduction Metering (Comp/Limiter/Gate)
    • Mute, Solo, Isolate, and User Defined Keys
    • One Assignable Rotary Encoder
  • 12 Fader Master Section Including
    • 8 DCA/Group Faders
    • 3 Faders for L/R C and Cue
  • All the Normal Vi Series Processing is Available via the Local Rack, Including Graphical EQ’s
  • 2 Touch Screens, 1 for Channels, One for Master Section
  • Digital I/O
  • 32 Groups
  • 32 Aux Sends
  • Cat5 or 7 to Stage Box/Snake
  • Compatible with all Vi4 or Vi6 Save Files

Now lets take a look at the Vi Series as whole, which applies to this tiny console…

  • On Inputs
    • Analog Mic Pres on Stage Box
    • Digital Gain Trim on Console
    • Delay (0-100ms)
    • HPF
    • LPF
    • 4 Band Fully Parametric EQ w/ optional HF LF Shelving
    • Comp, Limiter plus Gate or De-Esser on Each Channel
    • Pan (LR or LCR Switchable)
  • On Outputs
    • High Pass Filter
    • 4 Band Fully Parametric EQ w/ optional HF LF Shelving
    • Compressor, Limiter
    • Delay (0-1000 ms)
    • Assignable 1/3 Octave Graphical EQ
    • Assignable Lexicon Multi FX x 8

All in all, this looks like a great second control surface for any Vi4 or Vi6 owner to send on smaller gigs where you can’t quite afford the space or budget to send the bigger console… You can just send it along with your Vi Series Snake and Local box to the gig…

Of course, this console can be bought and ran independently of a Vi4 or Vi6… with the addition of a Soundcraft Local Rack and MADI Snake.
