Shure Vs Verizon: 700mHz Range Battle

fcc-logoVerizon has recently submitted a proposal to the FCC that asked for radical changes to the 700 mHz range of frequencies now known as “White Spaces.”  They want to change the regulations of the 700 MHz band to exclude wireless microphones, and Shure is fighting back.

The 700 MHz range is already enough of a mess for RF, ESPECIALLY near a major city (NY and LA have little to no frequencies open in the 700 MHz band).

Shure’s rebuttal brings up their initial fight to keep that Frequency Band clear, and the already in place guarantees for Wireless Devices in the 700 MHz band.  The Digital TV Transition has already left many manufacturers of RF gear feel quite… screwed.

For End Users it could be catastrophic if the 700 MHz band changes much more, and could leave many companies who are struggling in this recession flat on their back, with large amounts of their gear turned into bricks.
