Roland V-Mixer Software v2

Roland/RSS VMixer
Roland/RSS VMixer

The Roland/RSS V-Mixer may not be as wide seen as many other digital consoles, but Roland/RSS are making every effort make it so.

After a big update last summer to software version 1.5 of the V-Mixer, we’ve already arrived at verison 2. Unlike most digital consoles, they aren’t only fixing bugs and adding marginal features, but they’re really developing the console into a viable desk.

Added Features in V 2.0

  • Built in RTA!  Yes, RTA.
    • Standard RTA (But Sadly, no A B Comparison)
    • Assignable Input (Mic on Channel, or Output)
    • Can be Viewed from tethered PC
  • LCR Support
    • You can now change from a simple LR output to a LCR output, making things a little simpler than running a mono cluster (or subs for that matter) off of an AUX.
  • Compatibility with M-400 Personal Monitoring Systems
    • Roland/RSS’s version of the Aviom Systems, for musicians to be able to control their own monitor mix.
  • 6 New FX Engines – All Replica’s of Roland Units of Current/Days gone by.
    • Space Echo RE-201 – Replica of THE Space Echo.
    • Stereo Flange SBF-325 – Up to 3 Flangers and 1 Chorus
    • Dimension D SDD-320 – Chorus
    • Digital Delay SDE-3000 – One of my personal favorite Delay Units
    • Phase Shifter SPH-323 – A Stereo Version of the Classic Phaser.
    • Digital Reverb SRV-2000 – The Roland Standard Digital Reverb

All in all, I’d say this is another update to make this console more and more of a viable choice.

I still have issues with this console… Such As.

  • Pre-Amps are Snake Side, Multiple Consoles (FOH/Mon) can’t use gain differently, only attenuate through console
  • No A/B on RTA
  • Limit of 40 Channels / 16 Returns or 48 Channels / 8 Returns (if you purchase the second bank of the digital snake)

I’ve had some limited hands on experience with this console (1 show as A1), and to be honest, the Jury is still out.  It’s just different enough from a Yamaha Digital that I had issues finding some features (FX for example), but similar enough to run a show on it with a few references to the manual.
