QSC’s New K Series of Active Louspeakers

QSC has unveiled it’s new series of Powered Loudspeakers, the K Series.  This new and unique series of Active Loudspeakers is unique not only because it’s made by QSC, but also because each full range model in this series uses the same or very similar parts, with the same amp and power ratings!

Lets take a look at the QSC’s K Series…

The Overview

The QSC K Series consists of 4 different boxes, which all use the same or similar parts and amps.  The line consists of your normal array of different models… 3 boxes which are identical outside of the size of the box and size of the LF driver… There are 8″, 10″, and 12″ models.  Also there is a Sub Unit, which consists of 2 x 12″ LF cones with 500W behind each one of them.

Powered, Power, Powered

Each model in the K Series consists of the same amps, 1000W (total) Class D Amps which function the same in all of the units.  500W to each component in the box.  This includes the KSub.

The DSP Behind it All

The K Series uses extensive dsp in all of it’s models… Including DSP Crossover and automatic controls for coverage, levels to HF and LF drivers and time alignment… And on board Sub and Total Limiting.

Most of the DSP used in the K Series is passed down from higher models of QSC Amps and Loudspeakers, giving you the technology of the pro boxes in these powered loudspeakers.

Rig ‘Em

The K Series has one great innovation for a PA on a stick, and it’s called “Tilt-Direct.”  All of the Full Range models can either be hung, or be on a stick.  The 35mm pole socket has the GREAT feature of being able to tilt downwards 7.5 Degrees to help get direct coverage where you need it!

Input and Control Section

The input sections provide not only inputs for one who is using this PA through a normal mixer, but also the ability to mix two signals (2 x 1/4 Line, 2 x XLR/Mic, and 1 x RCA Inputs) with level controls for each input.  As well, each of these inputs has it’s own dedicated direct out, as well as a summed direct out to link a second box or sub.

You also have controls, controls, controls… LF and HF Settings… LF Settings Including Normal, Deep (dsp limiting), or Ext Sub (raises the crossover point for use with an external sub)… HF Settings include Flat or Vocal Boost (For more clarity in your vocals).

It’s All About The Price

These units are prices in the same range as a lot of pro entry level powered speakers, such as the JBL Eons, Mackie SRM, ect ect.  Although neither the Mackie or JBL seem to have the feature set, dsp or power of the QSC K Series… QSC seems to be the best deal in this loudspeaker range.
