FireWire 800 to 400 Adapter

Fire Wire 400 to 800Recently, I feel something has been missing… I wasn’t quite sure until I was digging through my closet and found that old hard drive that I knew there was something interesting on… But why, oh why will this damned cable not fit into any of these holes on my computer!

Apple has nearly completely (see: Macbook “nothing”) Firewire 400 from all of their computers as of late… Trading in the old trick for it’s older sister, Firewire 800.  This leaves a LOT of audio gear, and a LOT of storage *almost* in the dust…

But like older sisters all over the world, they’re just like their younger siblings, just a little different.

Firewire 800 is backwards compatible with Firewire 400, with a little love.  You can easily adapt firewire 400 to firewire 800 to use all those old drives and interefaces… No Problem!

The adapter does one simple thing, quite similar to all those adapters you have sitting in the cable bin… Takes the 6 pins of firewire 400 and puts them into a firewire 800 format.  Grand!

Even DigiDesign recommends using 400 to 800 adapters… So why not?
