DigiDesign’s Venue D-Show 2.8.1

The consoles that are now the envy of every other digital console (well, maybe the XL8 still looks down on them) has gotten yet another update… 2.8.1.

The Venue D-Show Software is the backbone of all of the Venue Consoles… The D-Show, Profile, Mix Rack System, AND the newest addition the SC48.  Lets see whats been updated with 2.8.1.

It seems the Venue System has reached a comfortable place, as most of what has been done with the newest software update are not fixes, but additions.

VCA and Group “Spill”

Not what i expected from the word Spill.  This new feature lets you “Spill” any VCA or Group, bringing faders assigned to these straight to the top layer of the console’s faders, no matter what layer they may be on.  This is great for doing quick assigns/unassigns and figuring out “what the hell is beating on my group compressor” moments.

Cue on the Mains Fader

Something that should have been there from the start for Monitor Engineers… You can now swap out your LR Fader to function as your Cue Fader.  Technically a tiny adjustment, but a GREAT addition for any engineer using a Venue console in Monitor Land.

64 Input Processing Channels with the Mix Rack

This update is a little more specific to a console… The Mix Rack.  It allows the Venue Mix Rack System to utilize a full 64 channels, and allows the user to stop using FX returns or Stereo Channels as input channels.

Enhanced Snapshots

You can now do more and more things with snapshots and cross fading snapshots with 2.8.1.  You can now use Channel Pan while crossfading snapshots, to allow for stereo imaging effects while cross fading.  Also added are Tempo’s to snapshots.  In turn, this lets you automate all Delay or Real Time FX if you’re looking for a certain delay relative to the tempo on all songs, or certain length of reverb as per the BPM.

Link Mono Matrixes as Stereo

Simple enough, but not included to now.  Also, being linkable means that all changes made to one side of the Matrix are also made to the other.  My question, is this switchable?  What if you want to EQ just one side?

And the Winner IS……..

Copy and Paste Plug-In Settings

Why this didn’t exist until now is anyone guest, but a huge advantage when trying to expedite setup/sound check time.

It seems the new leader in digital consoles (maybe not by sales, but in drool factor) just keeps getting better.

This puts Venue one up on M7CL, especially for monitors. Same price point, but now with less suck! If only it had 2 cue busses, I would take that shit out in a second.
