DigiDesign Becoming Avid?

We don’t report on non-gear related news here at Audio Thru very often, but this will effect everyone if it does, indeed, happen.

It seems that Avid, the parent company of Digidesign, maker of Pro Tools, may be absorbing the DigiDesign brand into the Avid Brand soon.

While I highly doubt this will impact the quality of products that Avid/Digidesign releases, it may indeed effect a few aspects of dealing with as well as future releases from Avid/Digidesign.

How you say?

It would make no sense for Avid to completely rid themselves of the DigiDesign name… It has quite the clout, and is a trusted brand.  What may happen instead is DigiDesign going from a Brand, to a Model or Series.

Mehaps, Soon you’ll be using Avid Pro Tools, with your Avid Digidesign 003 (similar to Apple’s Logic with a Presonus FireStudio Project)… No change in who works on the software, no change in who works on the hardware, just a re-branding of everything Digidesign.

Then again… this may never happen.  Only time will tell.

*** It’s come to my attention (thanks @UncommonRecords) that even the latest version of Pro Tools has Avid Logo on the Top, Bottom, and on Booting Pro Tools says “Pro Tools” is Avid.
