Connector to USB, Direct. Alesis Does It.

Alesis Line LinkAlesis recently announced their new line of USB to analog audio Cables…

  • MicLink - 1 XLR to USB
  • GuitarLink - 1 1/4″ to USB
  • LineLink - 2 1/4″ to USB

All are 16.5 ft long, and offer 44.1, 16 bit recording quality.  Mac/PC compatible (No mention of 64 bit Vista drivers).  They should, by all accounts, be compatible with any DAW that is plug and plan compatible.

The most interesting part, is no box, not so much as a plastic molded area for the conversion to happen, just a straight audio connector to USB connector.  Simplicity.

The only real catch is the lack of phantom power with the MicLink.  Dynamic microphones ONLY, as the power provided with the USB port presumably only supplies enough power for the Analog to Digital conversion.

This may be a turning point for Consumer Audio Interfaces… taking out all the not-so-complicated buttons and knobs and making things as stream lined as possible.

Just wait for China to get hold of this to start seeing in in Wal-Mart.
