AKG has announced that in March ’10 they will be releasing an iPhone app to control and monitor all of their latest generation of wireless transmitters and receivers!
Now, this isn’t as simple as that. There has to be hardware in between your wireless hardware and iPhone… Lets take a look.
AKG’s control application will be for the iPod Touch or iPhone… and works through the WiFi out of their control unit for all of their modern digital Wireless Units, which would be the AKG HUB 4000 Q.
The AKG HUB 4000 Q ables you to monitor and control up to 8 of the following units…
- DSR/DMS 700
- SST/IVM 4
- SR/WMS 4000/4500
The HUB 4000 Q allows you to connect via your windows laptop and control and or monitor your units… And as a bi-product, you can pick up on the same WiFi connection to do the same thing!
The iPhone/iPod Touch application allows you to do monitor or control any settings on either side of the RF Unit (Transmitter or Receiver)… Also it offers Monitoring of RF strength… No word on if it allows long term RF over time, as the Windows application does… Or if it’s short term only.
The question is, why has AKG advertised this as an “iPhone/iPod Touch” app to control your wireless units, instead of an add on for their HUB 4000 Q units? Huh.
