Apple has recently announced and released The New Logic Studio.
This includes Logic Pro 9, MainStage 2, Soundtrack Pro 3 and a massive collection of new VSTs, Plug-Ins, and Loops.
With new versions of this software suite there are a plethora of shinny new features, updates, and fixes for all of the software involved.
Lets take a look…
Logic Pro 9
Some of the new features in Logic Studio are… Shall we say, game changing.
Flex Time - A whole new collection of features that are all about manipulating time and tempo.
Flex Tool – Allows you to forget all about cutting and splicing… Allows you to drag and drop within wave forms.
Audio Quantize – No longer MIDI only… Now you can quantize audio to a musical grid OR another track.
Editing Drum Tracks – Group your tracks, and cut and edit all of them to keep everything in line, in phase, and sounding good.
Varispeed - Slow down or speed up a whole project.
Flex Modes – Different modes of editing… Rhythmic, Monophonic, Polyphonic… We’ll see how this works soon.
Speed Fades - Allows you to create time based fades, to get that vinyl turntable sound.
Tempo Import/Export – Yup.
Production Tools – Making editing and mixing easier step by step
Selective Track Import – Simply transfer setups and content one by one, or all together to another project.
Expanded Take Folder Editing – Gives you access to edit and flex time tools on all takes.
Drum Replacer – Replace or Double less-than-perfect drum tracks with triggered samples in just a few clicks.
Convert to Sampler Track – In one step turn an audio region to a sampler instrument.
Bounce In Place – A new feature that makes FX rendering much quicker and easier.
Notation and Chord Grids – Create guitar tablature using a library of more than 4000 chord grids…
Jam Pack: Voices – Build your song with a lead vocal, rapper, choir…
Warped Effects for Space Designer – 450+ warped impulse responses lets Space Designer have a bunch of new uses.
Guitar Gear – Mix and match your head, cab, pedals, fx, mics, ect.
Amp Designer – Build your dream guitar rig with 25 amps, 25 cabinets, and 3 mics in any placement.
Pedalboard – Fire up 30 stomp boxes… Please, not at once.
Classic Tones – Pick your preset.
Apogee GiO Support – Works w/ Logic Pro AND Main Stage. Mmm…
MainStage 2 – Live, Live, Live
Mainstage has transformed live performance (See: Nine Inch Nails), and it has continued to once again…
Playback – Play Backing Tracks via Stereo Tracks or Separate, Mixable Items.
Loopback – Live Loops Recorder Anyone? Modeled on Tape Based Devices.
Multimapping of Controls – Making one knob controls multiple plug-in parameters.
Grouped Controls – Drag and Drop entire sets of knobs, dials, faders, meters and more and group and organize the controls by color, size, and type.
Full ReWire Support – Run Mainstage with applications like Reason and Abelton Live.
Record Performances – Two track that show.

So that’s a super brief once over of SOME of the new features in Logic Pro 9 and Mainstage 2… Without getting into individual plug-ins, features within features, ect… We’ll all be hearing a lot more about this in the near future…
