The Blue Mikey, v2

Blue has announced their 2nd version of the Mikey… Learning much from their first adventure into iPod Microphones, we will soon have version 2.

If you’re interested… Here’s what Audio Thru had to say about the original Blue Mikey. And now on to V2

While the Mikey v2 hasn’t shipped yet, we do have quite a few details on the new iPod microphone…

The Hardware

  • Two Condenser Elements for Stereo Recording
  • USB Pass Through on the Mic
  • 1/8th Inch Line Input
  • 230 Degree rotating Microphone via 7 angle adjustments, letting you set up the Mikey in whatever fashion is needed.
  • Three Gain Settings to record “Anything from a loud rock concert to whisper”
  • 44.1 kHz, 16 bit digital recording
  • No Additional Software Needed
  • Optional Optimized Software Available for iPhone/iPod Touch

New Software

Blue has introduced the FREE recording software that works with the internal microphone on the iPhone or with (which it’s optimized for) the Blue Mikey (v1 OR v2).

This software records and saves two channel (stereo) audio and so much more…

  • Name Audio Files
  • Assign Photo To Audio Files
  • Change Quality (effects file size)
  • Set markers by Time
  • Set Record Time (record for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, ect)
  • Upload audio files on WiFi via FTP to an external server

But of course, the Mikey will work with the iPhone or any modern iPod’s voice notes or recording functions as well…

When, How Much

We don’t have any exact time frame for the Mikey v2 release, but hopefully it will be quite soon…

Also, this new version comes with a slight price increase… from a $79.99 list price, to a $99.99 list price.

The Mikey V2 was introduced at this year’s CES convention, but i’m sure it’ll be featured at Blue’s Booth at NAMM as well.
