M-Audio is Now Avid Too?

M-Audio is Avid.  But what is M-Audi Now?  I’m confused.  You’re confused.  Okay, I’m glad we established this.

This is an ongoing change with Avid and all of their brands (Avid Video, Digidesign, M-Audio, Pinnacle and Sibelius) to bring them under a single name… Avid.

Avid has announced, as they did with Digidesign and ProTools, that they are in the midst of re-branding M-Audio as Avid.  You’ll start seeing the Avid name pop up in Pro Tools M-Powered (if you haven’t noticed it already) and on M-Audio’s Website, Resources, ect ect…

This seems to be yet another step in Avid consolidating it’s several big name brands to one… But is this for the best?  It seems Avid thinks it is… And in the end, it may be.

Avid, as a company, already owns companies that make audio interfaces for everyone, from 1 channel guitar interfaces to full fledged world class PT HD rigs with XXX Inputs.  Why not put them all under one flagship brand?

Because… They’re confusing me.

What the consumer will get is unparalleled cross platform support between their software suites, making audio and video on any level (from home movies to box office hits) that much easier to create!

I, for one, still wonder what will happen to these huge brand names (M-Audio and Digidesign) after the change?  Will they become line of software/hardware?   We’ll see with time.

Thoughts?

M-Audio… Err.. Avid’s Announcement On This.

M-Audio has been under Avid for about 2 and 1/2 year now. I worked for Digidesign for about 2 years and just left about a year ago. They are looking to consolidate their brands under the Avid name but also keep their existing brands with the names they have built. It was never to clear as to why they are doing this except for the reason of bringing more awareness and reliability to the brands they now own.
