ART ( Applied Resarch & Technology) has introduced two new microphones at this summer’s NAMM, the ART M One USB and the ART M Four…
Both M One USB and M Four are large diaphragm condenser microphones for use in studio, field recording, or broadcasting…
Lets take a look at the two…
The ART M One USB
The M One USB is a second option to the already existing ART M One (not so USB)… With a Dual gold-sputtered diaphragm.
The new elements come in with the USB connectivity and power, as well as a headphone output located on the microphone a level and mix control for the Headphone Output…
While neither of these mics have hit the market yet, the ART M One is rumored to be shipping at a $99 street price.
ART M Four – Tube Goodness
The ART M Four is a brand new offering in ART’s M Series, and touts a dual gold sputtered diaphragm as well as an AX7 tube to supply all the wonderfully tube-y warmth that it can.
The M Four has a -10 dB pad switch, as well as a Low Roll Off swith AND pickup-pattern switching from Cardiod, to Figure 8, to Omni. The M Four will come with a power supply to power all that tube-i-ness.
Once again, not released just yet, but the rumor mill says $599 is the street price for a little tube in your life.
Release
While there are no exact dates out yet, late august is a general time you’ll start seeing these Mics for sale…

Regarding USB mics. I suppose for a few area of convience these are handy. But I really don’t waht to tie up a mic because I need a USB connection. Bootlegging or sampling becomes difficult when I use a device like the M-Adutio Micro track.
Additionally I feel that when the mic exceeds a $100 value I want to be able to control “things” between the element and the computer such as conversion / converters, EQ, preamp, processing, and load.
At $99 this could be helpful for pod-casting or strictly amateur laptop recording enthusiasts.
