Apogee – At it Again with the “One”

Apogee OneApogee is at it again, with their introduction of the Apogee One.

The Apogee One is a One in, Two Out Audio Interface that is specifically designed to work with Macs, as well as fit the look of a mac.

Looking like an iPhone, just a tiny bit bigger, and with bigger buttons the Apogee One fits the simple yet functional design of the Apogee Duet.

Lets take a look at the Features…

Inputs

One input at a time via three different options….

The Apogee One features an internal condenser microphone, featuring “Tuned Aperture Technology”… This internal microphone is omnidirectional and built in to the top of the unit.

The Break-Out Cable: This cable offers XLR Input or Unbalanced 1/4″ Input with Software controlled +48V Phantom Power.

Input Metering is on the hardware as well, with a 3 LED Meter that can either meter the Input, or Output (see Control below)

Control

It couldn’t be simpler… One big knob to control everything…

Pressing down the knob selects what input you are using, or the output.  There are 4 LED indicators to show you what you have selected… While having any of these selected, the knob controls the Gain or Output Level, depending on what you have selected.

That Simple?  Yup.  Ahhh…

Output

The Apogee One’s output may be it’s single fail…. 1/8″ Inch Output, to go either to headphones or monitors.  Of course, controlled by the big knob.

Connectivity

USB, USB, USB.  No adapters needed to use this with a MacBook Pro.  Bus powered by USB as well.

Compatibility

Mac Only.  The way it should be.  (please send hate mail to me on twitter, @audiothru)

Mac OS 10.5.7 or greater, Min 1 GB Ram, Recommended 2 GB.  Power PC or Intel Macs Supported.

And for the software…. GarageBand, Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Ableton Live, Cubase, Nuendo (Mac Beta), Digital Performer.   Or any Core Audio compatible software for the Mac.

Accessorize

Two accessories so far… A Mic Stand Clip for the One… As well as a Carrying Case.  Mmm… Neoprene.

In The End…

Apogee has a history of making great A/D hardware, and after their hit with the Apogee Duet…  I’m thinking this may be the new simple audio interface.

The Apogee One isn’t quite available yet, but as soon as it is you’ll know.
